Leslie (Andrea Riseborough) is a struggling single mother turned hometown hero following a modest lottery win. But returning to her hometown six years later, Leslie finds herself caught in a self-imposed cycle of addiction. Her relationship with her now adult son James (Owen Teague) has deteriorated after years of her broken promises and she is met with hostility by one of oldest friends (Allison Janney), who reluctantly takes her in only at James’s request. When Sweeney (Marc Maron) stumbles upon a passed out Leslie near the hotel he manages, he takes pity on her and gives her a job. Forced to reckon with the fallout of her actions, Leslie attempts to reconcile with those she has wronged.
