Initially considered the domain of sun bleached boys from Southern California, skateboarding has long since staked its claim in popular culture, and yet it’s still largely identified as a masculine endeavor. Director Jessica Edwards trains her roving camera on five women of different generations and cultures, who have redefined the idea of what a skateboarder looks like. Featuring some of the most dynamic women in the sport today, including Nicole Hause and Weymouth native Nora Vasconcellos, SKATE DREAMS captures the dynamism of the sport and the power in a united, passionate community whose members refuse to be relegated to the sidelines.
